Walking Dusty along the path to the fort yesterday, I was
stepping tentatively in order to avoid slipping on the ice. I noticed all the
dog paw prints and boot prints made by countless other dog walkers, now frozen
and hard. The footprints we were making were causing no change in the surface
of the path.
It struck me that as Christians, we sometimes share our
faith with those whose hearts and minds are frozen towards God. Words of life
just bounce off and make no impression.
Prayer is critical. Without prayer for the Holy Spirit to be
softening hearts and opening minds, our words make no difference to those with
whom we are in contact who do not yet know Christ.
Back into the prayer alcove, then.
Hope your Christmas prep doesn’t prevent time in that place
of prayer. Struggling to maintain it
myself.
