Fireside and Family

Funny how the two go together – fireside and family. It must be the warmth, and the light.

Today is Epiphany, the Feast of Lights. Jesus is the Light of the world who stepped down into darkness to open our eyes so that we could properly see.

I’ve had a wonderful weekend with him. It started with the monthly prayer breakfast, followed by a couple of hours in the 24 hour prayer room, which gives enough time alone with God to relax, to say what you want to say, and to listen. Worship is a big part of it. I came away from that time feeling cleansed and refreshed.

Then church today, and this afternoon our monthly service of healing and refreshment. We just lingered in God’s love together. We loved him back. We knew his presence among us. We meditated on the name of Jesus, picturing him on the cross, prayerfully laying our loved ones and our anxieties at the foot of that cross where his blood could drip on each of these concerns. He died for us, to set us free from those worries so that we can live in complete abandonment, trusting him to take care of those people we love, and those things that make us anxious.

His holy hug was palpable.

It was like sitting by the fireside with Family. Praise him. What a way to enter a new year, full of grace and peace.

May you also enter 2013 in that same place of blessing.
