Last Friday I headed to the historic Boswell House in Montrose for a deep reading, deep writing retreat with outstanding Scots poet Kenneth Steven. Intimate sessions with four writers and a poet sharing together, retreating to sacred spaces with blank sheets of paper and re-emerging two hours later surprised and often moved by the results.
It was a beautiful lay-by on the busy road of life and has, I hope, downshifted me into a new way of approaching writing. It reawakened my inner urge to step aside regularly and practice the art of writing from deep pools of memory.
