A couple of years ago Don gave me my first smart phone. It
was smarter than me, so I had to read whatever paltry directions came with it,
and then basically ask my kids how to use it. Kids have a serious advantage on
us older folk because they spend a lot of time hanging around with each other,
playing with their phones, finding new short-cuts or apps.
Thinking on this damp morning that life is a gift, and we
don’t always know what to do with it. Young adults trying to find their way
into the future are often bewildered by many options. Young mothers longing to
use the knowledge they have gained through hard work, feeling stuck and
brain-dead at home with children all day, caught in a dilemma. It’s never easy
juggling family and work, and it’s always a shame if the children are
short-changed. But what to do? Sometimes the opportunity to resume work is
there, but not always these days. It’s hard. Life is a gift, but sometimes it
is bewildering and the way ahead is anything but clear.
We were designed for each other, to help each other, to be a
shoulder to cry on, to give a word of advice, to search the Bible together or
pray together, or to offer practical help. Jesus never leaves us, but we were
also designed to meet with him in each other. May you be there for someone
today, and may someone be there for you.
