Healing in Progress

Topanga Canyon. Forty-five minutes northwest of the Hollywood sign. We started the gradual climb on the dusty path. A sign warned us of mountain lions. Another sign warned us to stay off the dry brush stretching on each side of the path: Healing in Progress.

Healing in Progress. The dry scrub obviously just needs time to heal. Unseen to the naked eye, healing is in progress.

That is the way God works. Invisibly. Behind the scenes. No fanfare. Sometimes nobody even noticing it's happening until the healing is complete.

I do believe in miracles. In sudden divine interventions into the natural world where God manipulates his laws of physics and nature and instantly heals.

Most his miracles, though, are the silent, unseen ones. In each of us, Healing is in Progress. We don't wear badges declaring that, and it's good to treat others with kindness and grace, not knowing at what stage of their inner healing journey they are.

We've all been wounded. In each of us, God is at work, lovingly, silently, without fanfare, without glory. Today, I give him the glory, the gratitude, for restoring hope, for healing memories, for carrying those whose journeys are through a dry scrubland.

Happy Sunday.
