Just in from planting a couple of pots with seedlings to
splash a bit of colour around in the summer time – hopefully.
But lurking under the surface of the compost (which has
over-wintered outside) I unearthed several ugly slugs, just waiting for me to
fill their larder. I’ve tried to wheak out every voracious monopod I could find
and send them packing, and have sprinkled the environmentally unfriendly blue
pellets over the surface of the dirt. Belt and braces.
Voracious pests lurk within each one of us, too, just
waiting their moment to feed off something in our lives and turn what might
have been lovely, into something nibbled and ugly and eventually dead.
Jesus told his followers to be alert, in reference to what’s
going on in the world, and we also need to be alert in reference to what’s
going on in our spiritual lives. New areas of ministry are particularly
susceptible to attack, so watch out for those slugs of self-doubt and
condemnation.
