The sun blazed out of a clear blue sky, and a lone woman
launched her paddle board into the long-abandoned harbour. Hunkered down, she
used her oar to propel herself out of the peaceful calm of the protected
harbour and into the North Sea.
Unusually, it was a benign North Sea. The waters were still.
She got her balance, stood, and began paddling around the rocky coastline at
Cove. Waves barely rocked the board, or so it seemed. Perhaps, standing,
balancing, she felt them. Perhaps, balancing, she struggled to feel secure and
safe.
There are times when life seems peaceful and calm, or at least,
peaceful and calm for us at that moment. Others might look and judge that we
are enjoying a time of rest. Paddling around a calm sea. But on the board, we
are still navigating life, where emotions, situations, conversations can rock
and lightly toss that on which we stand. Undermining our security. Raising our
fears.
Keeping balance is critical in life. Keeping balance and
navigating well, compass set on the Lord of life and love, the Lord of
creation. Whether the waves are rough or peaceful, we are all adrift on the sea
of life until we reach the safe harbour of God.
Such a consolation and encouragement that whatever storms we
may find ourselves tossed about in, Jesus is with us, and he is sufficient.
