The Countdown

Less than a week and the clock is ticking. Exciting and challenging at the same time.

Wishing I could warn Dusty of the change about to come upon her – an unwelcome change from her point of view. There will be fewer walks, and no little rewards along the way. There will be an emptier house, fewer warm fires to toast her tootsies beside. And from her perspective, that could be it forever.

She doesn’t know I’ll be back in a couple of weeks. The whole concept of time eludes her. It’s heartbreaking that no matter how hard I try, I can’t make her understand that I will be back.

I wonder if Jesus feels similarly frustrated and sad that so many people in the world don’t understand that he will be back. No matter how creatively he communicates to humanity, still there are deaf ears and hard hearts.

There is a difference, though. Dusty can’t understand because she is limited by a dog’s brain’s capacity. Human beings are made in the image of God and have the innate ability to hear and understand him.

It’s a matter of will. Which means people are choosing to reject  Jesus’ claims and offer of salvation and kingdom life starting here on earth.

And the clock is ticking.
Now that really is heartbreaking.
